Councils across the north west of England say they have seen a reduction in staff numbers of between 25% and 50% due to factors related to Covid-19 disease.
As a result, adult social services in the region are looking to recruit to key worker roles including cooks, care workers within residential care settings and in people’s own homes, as well as cleaners, and many more.
Delyth Curtis, deputy chief executive of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “There is a real issue mounting across adult social care so we have joined together to launch this much needed recruitment campaign.
“With an estimated one in four workers likely to be furloughed in the UK there is a huge number of people with incredible skills that would be greatly valued within adult social care right now.
“These are incredibly fulfilling and rewarding roles supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities when they need it most.
“Applicants don’t need to have previous experience within social care. As long as you have time and are willing to help people and get involved, we would be more than happy to welcome you to the team.”
New recruits – all of which will receive DBS and reference checks - would receive a basic induction and training including moving and handling, safeguarding, and food preparation. All positions are paid and hours are flexible to fit in with other commitments.
When required, all members of staff will be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment.
