Abstract
Contract services provider Aramark has notched up sales of more than 3m bottles of One Water since the beginning of the company’s partnership with Global Ethics in 2007. In so doing, the company has raised enough money to build 44 water pumps across poverty-stricken regions of Africa.

Each bottle of the branded spring water sold at its client sites sees a 10p donation made towards fresh water points in South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi and Angola, regions desperately in need of fresh drinking water supplies.

“Access to clean drinking water is a simple human right that we, in the developed world, take for granted, and is an issue we have a collective responsibility to help address.” said Val Carter, Aramark’s corporate responsibility director.

“We can provide poverty-stricken communities in Africa with access to clean water if the right mechanisms and access to funding are in place, and we can all do our bit by choosing to buy ‘One Water’ each lunch or break time. This simple act can literally transform and ultimately help save lives.”

Arammark client sites currently offering One Water to staff include the University of Salford, the University of Sunderland and Berkhamsted School, as well as a wide range of business & industry clients.

‘One Water’ is part of an initiative brought to market by not-for-profit organisation Global Ethics, which funds humanitarian projects in Africa. Its projects include the development and installation of fresh water pumps in areas where the few water supplies available are contaminated or inaccessible.

Through ‘One Water’ people are given the option to make a difference via a simple purchasing decision.
