Contract caterer Talkington Bates goes organic

2nd May 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Independent contract caterer Talkington Bates Group, is reinforcing its environmentally-conscious credentials by switching to organic milk for beverages at selected sites and by making organic vegetables available at all sites.
The outlets now only use organic milk in their beverages which is available to their diners at no extra cost and communicated via posters, table-talkers and site intranet campaigns. Every Talkington Bates site is now also receiving a Riverford organic vegetable box each week along with suggested recipes to help chefs create "wonderful" vegetarian dishes. Diners at the sites can also purchase an organic vegetable box to enjoy at home. The company is also investigating using organic eggs instead of the free-range variety at its sites at some stage in the future. Paul Bates, Talkington Bates group managing director, said: "Using organic produce is better for the environment and reflects the needs of a growing number of clients, who want to enhance their sustainability, and their customers. "This supports our credentials as an environmentally-conscious company dedicated to using quality, fresh, local and seasonal produce that is sustainably sourced. We believe in supporting high standards of food production and being passionate 'foodies', we insist on the best raw materials – fresh, healthy and nutritious. "Putting more focus on organic ingredients supports that commitment. This is just a relatively small scale test at the moment and we will evaluate the performance of the organic range at these sites before extending availability to more outlets going forwards."
