Contract caterer Elior strengthens position with acquisition of Lexington

Abstract
Global catering and services provider Elior, which turns over £3.9bn a year, has carried out the latest step in its UK growth strategy by signing an agreement for the acquisition of Lexington Catering.

Lexington, which operates contracts in the City of London and the south east, has a strong portfolio of leading London organisations. It generates annual sales of more than £30m and has a combined team of over 650 employees.

Lexington was established in 2002 by Mike Sunley, Katharine Lewis and Rachel Lindner. It currently holds contracts across London and the South East of England, including leading law firms, hedge funds and creative agencies.

Tim West, chairman of Lexington, will be appointed as director and non-executive chairman of Elior UK. Mike Sunley will be chief executive of Lexington, joining Catherine Roe, chief executive of Elior UK on the executive committee.

Gilles Petit, chief executive of the Elior Group said: "We are very pleased to welcome the Lexington teams into the Elior Group. This acquisition allows us to achieve a value-creating transaction and develop our position in the UK.

“It also reflects our focused growth strategy, which is to focus on markets where Elior has strong positions.”

Roe and Sunley issued a joint statement on the deal saying: “It will be business as usual for our respective clients.

“The added market presence this agreement brings will provide additional resources and many opportunities for our people and our individual brands, which we believe is a very exciting prospect for all of us and importantly our highly valued clients and customers.”

Founded in 1991, Elior Group operates 13 countries with 105,000 employees serve 3.7m customers each day across 17,500 restaurant sites and other outlets.

In the UK, Elior has catering contracts across the B&I, health & care homes, defence, education, stadia and heritage sectors. It employees over 10,000 people working at 650 different locations.

Lexington was set up in 2002 by co-founders Mike Sunley, Katharine Lewis and Rachel Lindner.
