Abstract
Daniele Quattromini, who works for leading London corporate and B&I operator Lusso Catering, was announced last night as the winner of the 2015 Gold Service Scholarship for front of house staff.

Quattromini works for the CH&Co brand at its Club Lounge 39 site, a private members club on the 39th floor of One Canada Square which mixes financiers and company start-ups to generate new business schemes.

Lusso managing director Paul Hurren said: “We’re delighted. Daniele made the final last year and was absolutely determined to enter again because he believed he could win it.

“He’s had to work really hard, but it’s been worth it.”

Quattromini said: “It’s easy for people working in contract catering to think a competition like this is not relevant to them. Good service is relevant for everyone and I hope that me winning will inspire others in the sector to enter next year.”

Launched in 2012, the Gold Service Scholarship is an annual competition for young front of house talent that aims to inspire the hospitality stars of tomorrow.

Alastair Storey, chief executive of key sponsor BaxterStorey, told the awards presentation: “There’s a great future in this industry for young people, but it’s so important to remember that success depends on getting all the elements right – service and food.

“That’s why we need to invest in talent and why this competition is so important in promoting high service standards.”

He added that the Gold Service Scholarship had received a real boost by the news that Her Majesty The Queen had agreed to become a patron.

More than 120 people entered the 2015 competition, with 28 going through to a regional finals round which tested practical skills and written knowledge.

Eight of these won through to the final at the Connaught Hotel where they had to serve a three-course meal to a table of four industry experts and veterans.

As winner, Quattromini will receive a year’s worth of mentoring, learning, travel and placement opportunities from a group of the most senior service professionals in the UK and internationally, tailored specifically to his needs.

These will include a Placement to work and experience a state visit to Buckingham Palace, a one-week stage at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Europe, placements at The Waterside Inn and Le Gavroche plus tasting visits to Champagne and Bordeaux.
