Abstract
Contract caterer Compass Group UK & Ireland is celebrating after its new Grasslands restaurant at Edinburgh Zoo, created in conjunction with Scottish design agency 442 Design, won the Roses Interior Design Award at a ceremony held last month at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Manchester.
Compass held two of the three finalist places in the Interior Design category for the newly launched Edinburgh Zoo eateries, Grasslands and the Jungle Foodcourt, which battled it out against the ASICS Amsterdam flagship store for the interior design accolade.
The contract caterer won a new 10 year contract with Edinburgh Zoo in April, and has since embarked on a programme to refurbish and rebrand the dining destinations.
Roy Westwood, creative manager for sport, leisure and hospitality at Compass Group UK & Ireland, commented: "We are honoured to be recognised for our industry-leading design. "To have both Grasslands and the Jungle Food Court sought out for nominations is testament to our design innovation and a brilliant opportunity to showcase the creative work we're doing. We've created a real flagship in Edinburgh and are so proud that it competes with some of the best eateries on the high street."
Gary Wilson, director of business operations at Edinburgh Zoo, added: "The two main eateries at Edinburgh Zoo have been refurbished, rebranded and revitalised for our visitors. We receive many positive comments; in fact both Grasslands and the Jungle Foodcourt were both significant reasons in Edinburgh Zoo achieving a four star visitor attraction rating from VisitScotland."
