Abstract
Contract catering company bartlett mitchell has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation for its head office in Egham.
The ISO scheme uses the EMS (Environmental Management System), an interactive package used to measure the impact of the company's head office activities, such as energy consumption and wastage, on the environment.
Other recent sustainability developments at bartlett mitchell include: Adopt a Beehive – through fundraising initiatives linked to the British Beekeepers Association, bartlett mitchell has now adopted 19 beehives in Surrey and Central London. Plant a Tree – with a new tree being planted for every new contract gained, 8 have been planted in the past two months alone. Freewheeling Initiative – bartlett mitchell operations avoid non-essential deliveries on at least one day a week and this has reduced deliveries by 36% on Wednesdays and over 12% across the month.
Wendy Bartlett, managing director of bartlett Mitchell, said: "We're very proud to have achieved this tough accreditation for our Head Office, especially on the back of being the first contract caterer to achieve a Green Tourism accreditation. "We already had some of the systems and policies in place that ISO demands and with some adjusting of the way we do things, we've enhanced our green credentials even further in gaining ISO14001. "In these days of increasing competitiveness amongst contractors and clients' increasing demands for sustainable solutions, this accreditation puts us ahead of many of our competitors in this area. It also fits in with our own desire to run a company managed on the broad principles of sustainability."
