The research, commissioned in the lead up to World Oceans Day (8 June) estimates that a litre of purified water costs less than 5p per litre compared to buying bottled mineral water at a cost of more than 50p per bottle.
Adam Lenton, marketing manager at EauVation, said: “A number of consumers highlighted that a meal experience can be dramatically altered by the quality of water. They want to be sustainable but also want good quality water – one gentleman cited that he finds it staggering that top-class establishments are happy to undermine their own wonderful cuisine by the taste of chemicals in the tap water they serve.
“It is a win-win for the restaurant and a win-win for the consumer to enjoy freshly purified water.
World Oceans Day aims to promote the fight against plastic pollution in oceans. Scientists estimate if we don’t change our ways, the ocean will have more plastic weight than fish by 2050.
Lenton added: “We’re calling on caterers on World Oceans Day to take stock and consider these issues and, even better – to support and drive change. The focus on the use of plastic is only going to increase and so now is the time for us all to come together and make positive purchasing decisions for the future of the sector and our environment.”
