Abstract
To coincide with the opening of the new Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Compass Group UK & Ireland's retail business has signed a contract with Carillion to install and manage an Amigo convenience store and Costa Coffee outlet in the main entrance of the hospital.
The hospital retail deal, lasting seven years, is worth approximately £1.75 million in annual revenue.
Chris Box, facilities director, Carillion plc said: "The new Queen Alexandra Hospital is the most modern centre of its kind in Europe and has been carefully designed from the inside out for the benefit of patients.
"For this very reason it was important that a great deal of thought be given to the new retail area of the hospital to ensure it simultaneously complemented the design ethos while offering a full range of premium and value choices to staff and visitors."
Lynn King, business director-retail, Specialist Markets, at Compass Group UK & Ireland, added: "Visitors, staff and patients increasingly expect a high quality, high street experience at hospitals. "They appreciate the choice of convenience and being able to either grab a Costa Coffee and food 'on the go' from the shop or treat themselves to 'time out' to relax in the superb Costa outlet environment. We are very pleased to begin a relationship with Carillion at the fantastic new Queen Alexandra Hospital."
Compass has opened similar retail outlets in two other hospitals in the south recently: Costa Coffee outlets were introduced to Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester in September 2008 and Basingstoke in July 2009.
