Compass Group retail goes into two new hospitals with Consort Healthcare

21st Dec 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Two new-build hospitals, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, will benefit from branded retail outlets provided by Compass Group UK & Ireland following its success in a competitive tender.
Consort Healthcare, the PFI healthcare division of Balfour Beatty, awarded Compass' retail business with two 15-year contracts worth almost £50 million in total revenue from customer sales after the foodservice and support services company demonstrated high quality designs for the new food and coffee retail areas. From 2011 patients, staff and visitors at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham will have access to a new food court incorporating: World Marché, a live chef's theatre using the freshest ingredients; Henry Smiths, a fresh from the oven bakery and Mondo Subs, Compass' own made to order subway sandwich offer. Both hospitals will also host Costa Coffee cafés, just like those that can be found on the high street, to offer a calming and relaxing space away from the hospital's clinical areas. Mark Holden, chief executive, Consort Healthcare, said: "Compass' proven track record in the hospital retail industry and the quality of the food offering and retail area designs led them to be our preferred supplier. The food court options at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham will provide variety, choice, fresh and healthy food and hot, traditional meals. We hope that visitors, patients and staff will enjoy eating and drinking in this space." Lynn King, Director - Retail, Specialist Markets at Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: "We are really excited to be part of two new hospitals and to bring inviting dining and snacking areas into these hospitals. These contracts mark the first time that Compass has partnered with Consort Healthcare and we look forward to working together in the coming years."
