The initiative is an extension of its support for Farmhouse Breakfast Week (26 January to 1 February 2014), an annual celebration of breakfast organised by the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board.
Compass Group is challenging customers to make their morning meal healthier through simple steps in thousands of its eateries around the UK. Consumers are being encouraged to make one small change each day of the month: from swapping a fried egg for a poached one, opting for a fresh blueberry porridge topper over golden syrup or enjoying a fruit smoothie instead of a morning coffee.
Compass’ ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’ promotion is supported by a range of marketing materials, with educational information being made available for customers through Know Your Food boards in sites. Compass’ award-winning Know Your Food programme is a common platform introduced in 2012 to inform consumers about healthy living and sustainable sourcing and deliver core initiatives to clients and stakeholders.
Nicky Martin, head nutritionist for Compass Group UK & Ireland said: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet many people skip it. We wanted to show how easy it is to change just one small thing – and these simple steps that easily become part of your daily routine are the most effective way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
In addition, Compass is supporting the Change4Life Be Food Smart initiative, displaying Be Food Smart leaflets across its units while also promoting a Be Food Smart meal option.
