The Green Apple Awards recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice.
Compass Group was rewarded gold in the Food and Drink category for their revamped approach to ensuring compliance with their certified ISO14001 Environmental Management System and promoting best practice at site level.
Celena Fernandez, environment manager for Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “Being rewarded a gold award by such a prestigious organisation is a huge honour. We worked extremely hard to create the Environment Toolkit so for it to be recognised in such a way is fantastic. We will continue to improve the Toolkit every year to keep our sites up to date with the latest information as we seek to deliver best practice across the business.”
Bidvest Foodservice won a bronze award for Environmental Best Practice in the Food & Drink category. The company was commended for its future-focused strategy to lead the foodservice sustainability agenda through its four key pillars: collaboration; sustainable lifestyle and products; food and packaging waste, and distribution.
Shirley Duncalf, head of sustainability at Bidvest Foodservice, said: “At Bidvest Foodservice we take this issue seriously, and concentrate on what is real and valuable to our customers. Our sustainability initiatives reflect an understanding of what stakeholders currently want, and what may be required in the future. We also provide support, advice and guidance to our customers, making it easier for them to make sustainable choices.”
