Meals are prepared at The Clink HMP Brixton and delivered to people’s homes on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The prisoners who are working towards their City & Guilds NVQs in Food & Beverage Service, Professional Cookery and Food Hygiene qualifications cook the meals.
The Clink&Collect service was launched on 16 July 2020, where customers could select starters, mains, sides and desserts plus a range of soft drinks and retail lines including Clink aprons, tea towels and cookbooks. The minimum order is £35, which includes personal delivery in a refrigerated van from The Clink team.
The new Clink Charity menu includes:
- Starters: spiced winter vegetable soup (VG); fougasse with rosemary & garlic butter (V- for two to share) and pork terraine with crostini.
- Main-courses: potato, leek & Cornish Yarg pie with roast root vegetables (V), barbeque pork ribs with spicy rice & coleslaw; slow cooked beef brisket with colcannon potatoes and Thai sea bream en papillote.
- Sides: creamed potato (V) and winter greens, garlic & herb butter (V).
- Desserts: spiced Autumn fruit crumble with crème anglaise (V + VG- two portions); orange & stem ginger steamed pudding with crème anglaise and chocolate & almond torte with crème fraiche (V + GF).
The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton is consistently placed in the Top 10 restaurants in London on TripAdvisor, and in 2017 all of the restaurants held the Number 1 spot for six months.
The Clink Charity aims to reduce reoffending rates by training prisoners to become chefs so they are more likely to find employment when they leave prison.
