The two organisations are aligned by their commitment to sustainable food sourcing in education and healthcare catering. Food for Life works with schools, hospitals and care homes to teach people how their food is cooked and grown while championing the importance of well-sourced ingredients.
It also runs Food for Life Served Here - a certification scheme for meals and the Green Kitchen Standard Award that focuses on water, energy and waste reduction in kitchens.
Simon MacDowall, divisional managing director at Civica, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Food for Life, which continues to do great work to help improve standards across education and healthcare catering. There are clear synergies between our common values and our joint commitment to reducing food waste and driving sustainable procurement.
“Civica will be sole sponsors of Food for Life’s Impact Report, which will look at what it takes to achieve the standards set in its certification scheme. We’re also looking forward to working together on a series of activities to help our customers overcome their challenges relating to issues including food waste, sourcing, procurement and catering management.”
CivicaPay Education parental payment portal and Civica Cashless helps to improve efficiency, visibility and safety across their catering operations.
Caron Longden, development lead at Food for Life Served Here and Green Kitchen Standard, added: “We reward caterers for using locally sourced and ethical ingredients, that support our local economy and protect the environment for the future. Our aim is to ensure that the £2.4 billion spent on public sector catering each year is promoting human and planetary health.
“By sponsoring the Food for Life Served Here Impact report, Civica is enabling us to showcase the positive outcomes for climate, nature and health created by FFLSH & GKS, thus increasing the impact of our work.”
