Circle charity and HMP Addiewell win awards for supporting families affected by imprisonment

4th Jul 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
Circle, a Scottish charity providing community support to vulnerable children and families, has picked up two awards this month for its work with HMP Addiewell, a prison run by Sodexo Justice Services, in support of families affected by imprisonment.
Circle and HMP Addiewell were the proud winners of the Partnership Award at The Scottish Charity Awards. They have been rewarded for coming together to promote better outcomes for parents leaving prison, and better outcomes for their children. In addition, Circle was awarded a Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Care Accolade within the 'Working Better, Working Together' category for its work with HMP Addiewell and two other Scottish prisons. Audrey Park, director of HMP Addiewell, said: "A key element of prisoners returning to the community successfully is to return to a supportive and positive family life. The work of Circle contributes significantly to this and we are proud to be working in true and practical partnership with Circle at HMP Addiewell. "It is reassuring and pleasing to note that the sterling efforts of the prison and Circle have been formally recognised in this way. We are very proud of what has been achieved." Circle is a voluntary organisation which aims to support vulnerable families in Scotland to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged children. HMP Addiewell has been working with Circle to support fathers in prison. This ranges from organising regular family visits to preparing them for family life when they leave. Circle assigns case workers to individual prisoners to provide support whilst they are in prison and also when they leave.
