The two chippies worked with the Marine Stewardship Council team to deliver their assemblies with St Alban City School and Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary School in York. The chippies used the MSC's Fish & Kids educational resources to deliver talks about sustainability, including their trips to the MSC Norwegian North East Arctic haddock fishery.
Stefanie Siebels, MSC’s UK commercial officer, said: “The MSC believes that it is imperative to educate future generations about the importance of protecting the world’s ocean and sustainable fishing.
“We are thrilled to be able to link up MSC certified fish and chip shops with schools to help deliver this message to their local communities. We would like to thank both Godfrey’s and Miller’s fish and chips for their initiative and dedication in setting up these school visits.”
The assemblies covered the range of fish species found in UK waters, the journey of fish from ocean to plate and what happens if we take too many fish out of the ocean.
