Chefs urged to incorporate local food on menus

3rd Mar 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Chefs from across the East Midlands are being invited to attend the monthly food market in Nottingham's Old Market Square on 18 April to encourage them to discover more about local ingredients that are available on their doorstep, and to persuade them to incorporate them onto their menus.
Up to 40 food and drink producers from the East Midlands will be having stalls. The event will also offer producers the chance to discover potential new outlets for their products. Chefs who are interested in joining the event can contact East Midlands Fine Foods on 0115 875 8809. Janel Fone, East Midlands Fine Foods manager, commented: "Local and regional food and drink is becoming more and more popular. We're really lucky in the East Midlands to have a diverse array of food and drink producers, who are producing some fabulous ingredients." She continued: "Chefs don't always have lots of time to spend on sourcing, so we hope this will make it easier for them. We hope the visit will inspire them to try using some of the ingredients in their dishes, and ultimately to give a boost to the specialist food and drink sector in the East Midlands." April's event is being supported by Food from Britain and is run by East Midlands Fine Foods in conjunction with Nottingham.
