The company, which provides a framework for implementing the New EU allergy law, invites chefs, caterers and food-lovers to eliminate one or more allergens from their diet. The aim is for the volunteer to understand the daily issues of someone who lives with an allergy. The challenge will include dining out, checking supermarket labels, and ordering a takeaway.
Senior Allergen Advisor for Allergen Accreditation, Jacqui McPeake has created the #Onemcpeakechallenge to make those in the catering industry appreciate the problems associated with food allergies. Along with raising awareness, the challenge will also raise money for The Anaphylaxis Campaign.
The Anaphylaxis Campaign is a charity to support people at risk of severe allergies. The major fourteen allergens pose a serious threat to many people, especially when eating out. These include milk, eggs and tree nuts (almonds, walnuts and pecans). Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction, which can affect a person’s airways, heart, circulation, gut and skin.
To gain an insight into the experiences of the volunteers, Allergen Accreditation invites participants to share their thoughts on social media using the hashtag.
All of the money raised will go direct to The Anaphylaxis Campaign. The final amount raised will be announced at their conference on the 18th of September and shared on social media.
