Abstract
Celebrity chef Paul Rankin recently attended Marling Boys School and Stroud High School in Gloucestershire to talk to pupils about the importance of healthy eating, where food comes from and how to cook using healthy ingredients.
Rankin helped educate pupils about cooking dishes from scratch and led a cooking class where he taught children the basics of cooking such as knife skills and using raw ingredients.
Contract caterer Sodexo has been working with Rankin for 11 years to ensure healthy, tasty meals are always available for pupils to enjoy. Events like these help encourage children to get involved in cooking, to learn about food and the different methods of flavouring in place of salt, and presentation skills.
Rankin said: "It is important that children have a good relationship with food, and the key is to ensure that they understand the basics first. By teaching them simple knife skills, flavours and ingredients, they will be able to relate to what they eat and become more aware of the wider variety of ingredients available."
Rankin helped serve lunch at Stroud High School, where he added that the food prepared by resident Sodexo chef, Sarah Snell, was of "restaurant standard."
