Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity, Fergus Ewing, said: “The £1.5 million deal will ensure that more of our school children enjoy the benefits of locally produced food, and will provide a welcome boost to our primary producers working tirelessly to put food on our tables.”
Scottish cheese will now be available to over half a million school pupils across Scotland. Cordia and Scotland Excel are the Scottish Government’s procurement offices.
Lactalis Mclelland source milk from 147 farms from Ayrshire to Dumfries and the required volume of cheese will be the equivalent of 3.8 million litres of milk.
