Raymond Blanc, chef patron of Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons; Henry Dimbleby, co-founder of healthy eating fast food chain Leon and architect of the School Food Plan; and chef Dean Edwards from ITV Daybreak’s Lorraine, have pledged their support for the initiative.
The aim is to encourage consumers throughout September to make their own soup for lunch and donate what they would have spent on a supermarket/café/restaurant lunch to Broadway, while companies can encourage staff to sell soup from their kitchen or canteen.
Souper September has its own website – www.souperseptember.co.uk – with full details about how to get involved and also many soup recipes and ideas. There are also recipes from some of Broadway’s clients, and the celebrity chefs and restaurateur have each contributed a signature soup. The website also has an area where people can share their recipes.
Blanc said: “I’m supporting Broadway and Souper September this year because it’s a great way to find out about the cook within you – using seasonal ingredients and some great ideas.”
Dimbleby added: “Souper September is a great way to help those in a difficult situation. I hope you enjoy the soup recipes we’ve donated and remember to give the money you would have spent on lunch to this brilliant cause.”
Broadway’s fundraising manager Kirsty Telford said: “Homeless people often find themselves out in the cold, and our work at Broadway is to support, challenge and inspire them on their journey from street to home.
“We are delighted to have Raymond, Henry and Dean backing our campaign and hope that their support and recipes will inspire people to soup up their September and raise bowlfuls for Broadway.”
