Celebrity chef Paul Rankin teaches kids about importance of healthy eating

11th Nov 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Celebrity chef Paul Rankin recently visited pupils at Brighton & Hove High School GDST to talk about the importance of healthy eating and teach them a few tricks of the trade.
Contract caterer Sodexo organised the day to get pupils at the school interested in food by talking to Rankin about his experiences as a celebrity chef. Rankin took to the floor to compare the children's bodies to machines and said that the right foods will act as fuel to make their bodies work better and faster. He also led a home economics lesson with Year 9 students at the senior school. He taught them knife skills and talked about the best way to cook sweet and sour chicken. He assisted each pupil to help them make the best sweet and sour chicken dish, offering them advice along the way and demonstrating his own way of cooking. And at lunch time, Rankin helped out with the school's lunch service which is provided by Sodexo. He talked to the pupils about their favourite foods, his favourite dishes to cook and encouraging them to try cooking things from scratch at home. The renowned chef said: "It is so important to teach children the importance of healthy food and today is just one of the ways Sodexo and I work together to promote the healthy eating message in schools. I've really enjoyed visiting Brighton & Hove High School, the kids were really engaged and I had a lot of fun cooking with them." Lorraine Willis, Sodexo account manager, added: "At Sodexo, we take pride in ensuring the food we offer in our schools is great to eat and nutritionally balanced. Paul's talk about the importance of food and help in the home economics class will provide the pupils with a better knowledge of food which will not only help them now but in the future too."
