Catermasters to expand its Corporate & Social Responsibility policy

18th Oct 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Catermasters, a leading supplier of workplace catering solutions, has revealed that it is going to expand its Corporate & Social Responsibility policy even further by adding four new initiatives from the beginning of 2011.
The new schemes include having a showcase Fair Trade snack stand in each of its sites, reducing food waste by working with recycling companies and introducing composters and wormeries, working with clients to become even more water, gas and electricity efficient, and fully embracing sustainable farming by ensuring all suppliers support future food stocks. Initiatives that it currently embraces include using local and seasonal produce from local suppliers, offering bottle and can recycling schemes, using Ruckhams Farm Freedom Foods, using British meat from award-winning butcher Aubrey Allen and using biodegradable packaging and unbleached napkins. It also introduced an initiative on 1st September that requires all of its sites to only use free range eggs. Joint managing director Richard Moody said: "We've always considered ourselves to be at the forefront of CSR and that's borne out by the fact that we were the first caterer to embrace Fairtrade 10 years ago and the first to use and donate to 'One Water'. "But we have recently identified a number of new areas in which we can become even more responsible. For instance, 60% of our sites already used Free Range eggs but we've brought that number up to 100% after our ruling that came into force at the start of September. A strong CSR policy is becoming increasingly important to both us and our clients and we want to make sure we're doing all we possibly can."
