Catering supervisor awarded for money-saving idea

7th Jul 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
The catering supervisor at Lifespan Catering Services in Cambridge has won a prize after coming up with a suggestion that will help the company save cash.
Employee Peter Pearson joined fellow members of staff in submitting his entry into a suggestion box, which was set up as part of the company's initiative to encourage staff to come up with measurable ideas on saving money. The NHS caterer has awarded Pearson with a £100 shopping voucher after he came up with the winning idea of using smaller containers when preparing food safety samples at the business' Ida Darwin base – a move that will create an estimated annual saving of £5, 000. Head of catering Trevor Coloumb presented Pearson with the voucher saying: "Peter's idea is simple yet highly effective, and has been able to demonstrate a substantial annual saving to the NHS – without compromising the service we provide to our customers."
