During lockdown the company saw that their CO2 emissions were greatly reduced from 885 Total Direct Greenhouse gases in February 2020 to 279 in May 2020. In 2021 they exchanged six diesel cars for hybrid vehicles and purchased their first all-electric car.
Gary Stewart, founder of CMC, said: “As a company who help to feed the next generation and keep them healthy, CMC want to ensure that the planet can continue to sustain and provide for the next and future generations.
“With electric cars emitting an average 25% less CO2 emissions that diesel cars, we’re really pleased to have been able to achieve our first goal ahead of schedule. Whilst this has been a big investment for us, we hope to see a reduction in company fuel and car servicing costs as electric cars have fewer moving parts prone to wear and tear.
“Over the next few months we’re going to analyse the data on what our savings are both in terms of CO2 and costs and what happens in the economy with fuel prices. Based on our findings we’ll then decide whether we stay with the mix of hybrid and electric or look to invest further in all electric.”
