Catering, food and farming leaders tackle challenge of a national strategy

Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum is holding an online policy conference called ‘Developing a New National Food Strategy for England’ on Tuesday, 7th July.

The four-hour event includes Professor Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy, City, University of London, who will address the issue of ‘what makes a good food system, and Ian Wright, chief executive of the Food and Drink Federation on ‘maintaining a competitive and secure food manufacturing industry’.

‘Agricultural standards and our food values’ will be tackled by Minette Batters, president of the National Farmers Union, while Emily Miles, chief executive of the Food Standards Agency will consider ‘approaches for ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance’.  Alison Tedstone, national director for diet, nutrition and obesity at Public Health England, will look at ‘improving healthy choices within the food industry’.

Other speakers include Stefano Agostini, chief executive of Nestlé UK & Ireland; Sue Davies, head of consumer protection and food policy at Which?; and Claire Pritchard, chair of the London Food Board.

The forum will be chaired by Baroness McIntosh of Pickering, who sits on the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee, and Baroness Kate Parminter, a member of the Lords Select Food, Poverty, Health and Environment Committee.
