Abstract
Catering contractors Alliance in Partnership (AiP) has introduced organic nut free bread into 27 schools in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The bread is 100% organic, using organic sunflower oil when baking, and is supplied by a local family business, Aston's Bakery, in Cricklewood, London. The group of contracts, worth £8.5 million over the three year term, focuses heavily on sustained local and environmentally friendly produce and the 5000 meals freshly prepared every day. Syd Aston of Aston's Bakery was both surprised and honoured to be chosen by AiP to supply breads for the schools: "This certainly will support our business through the current difficult financial situation and enhance the growth of Organic food production. "It is important for children to eat real food containing only natural ingredients, so they learn to appreciate the flavour of freshly cooked seasonal ingredients." David Weller, managing director of AiP, added: "Legislation commands us to label the ingredients of our meals. Astons use ingredients that are 100% organic and trustworthy with no adverse enzymes." The AiP is currently working towards achieving the Food for Life Catering Mark.
