Abstract
Food allergy specialist Jacqui McPeake has set up a fund-raising challenge that is geared to help caterers raise their awareness of the problems of living with food allergies.

From September 3-17 you are asked to remove just one allergen from your diet to experience how difficult this can be.

She says: “Are you ready for a challenge? Why not start what we’re calling the OneMcPeakeChallenge and experience the daily frustrations of living with allergies.

“Go out and buy your weekly shopping-checking each label, go out to eat with a restricted diet-to see how easy that will be. Find out how confident you are to order a takeaway, and keep notes and tell us about your experiences.

“Ask your friends and family to sponsor you as all proceeds go towards NARF Natasha's Allergy Research Foundation

“With 71 days to go until Natasha's Law, this challenge will help you understand why it is so important to have full ingredient labels on products.

“In my previous role, in order to ensure that my team could begin to understand the frustrations that our customers with allergies may face on a daily basis; I challenged them to remove one allergen from their diet for one month.

“They found it difficult, they found it challenging and more importantly it led the team to review our menus and allergen management procedures to improve the experience for the customer.

“We are now working with Allergen Accreditation to develop this challenge further and we’re asking you to climb the mountain of allergens.”
