Caterer Charlton House gets behind Mary's Meals charity

5th Oct 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Contract caterer Charlton House is donating 10p for every bowl of porridge sold in its staff restaurants to the Mary's Meals charity from 11th -15th October 2010.
World Porridge Day is next Sunday 10th October but the independent caterers are turning the entire week into an opportunity to raise funds for the British registered charity which provides a free meal at school for the world's poorest children. David Bridge, executive chef for Charlton House, has created a series of recipes to make porridge more interesting, ranging from low carb porridge to prune and fig porridge and a dark chocolate porridge. Caroline Fry, managing director, said: "We hope that this will highlight the nutritional benefits of starting the working day on a bowl of porridge. We also want to draw attention to Mary's Meals which provides daily meals to chronically hungry children in their local school. "In this way the hungry child is encouraged to attend school and, through education gain a better future for himself and his communities. "It only costs £6.15 to provide a child in Malawi with Mary's Meals for a year so we are doing everything we can to raise awareness and funds for the charity this year." The initiative will run across Charlton House's 80 staff restaurants nationwide.
