Care sector set for growth in meal numbers, according to report
Abstract
The number of meals delivered in the care sector is set to grow by a conservative 8.5% by the year 2028, according to research for Public Sector Catering (PSC) magazine.

In a report commissioned by PSC and produced by Future Foodservice, the future forecasting service headed by Simon Stenning, the care sector is currently serving 650m meals every year.

That represents a 26% market share by meal volume of the total number served across the public sector, which is 2.64bn. By 2028 care sector caterers will be delivering 705m meals a year as the population ages.

The report, titled ‘The Future of Public Sector Catering 2023-2028’ seeks to provide a definitive base for the scale of the total market, broken down into the component segments, and detailing the total number of meals served.

Key insights into the future direction and size of the market have also been researched to outline what the future looks like.

Aimed at both suppliers and operators working in foodservice within the public sector, the full, 100-plus page report can be purchased by contacting Rebecca Saunders (rebeccas@dewberryredpoint.co.uk).
