Abstract
Merisant Company, owner of low-calorie sugar alternative Canderel, is teaming up with food charity FareShare to ease hunger and food waste in the UK.

A limited edition Canderel 75g jar is set to launch at supermarkets nationwide, with 5p from every sale between 1 March and 31 May being donated to the charity.

The campaign will provide 100,000 meals for people in need, centred around the message: “Everyone deserves sweetness in their lives”.

FareShare is the UK’s largest food charity; redistributing food that would otherwise go to waste to frontline charities and community groups that support vulnerable people – including homeless shelters, children’s breakfast clubs and lunch clubs for older people.

As part of the initiative, Merisant Company has partnered with ten UK food and lifestyle bloggers to create a ‘left-overs’ recipe book featuring Canderel products.

The book includes sweet and savoury recipes featuring ingredients that regularly go to waste.

Lindsay Boswell, chief executive at FareShare, said: “At a time when 8.4 million people in the UK struggle to put food on the table, we should not be wasting any food that is still fit to eat. Through this campaign, FareShare will be able to redistribute enough food for 100,000 meals.

“This could be for children who would otherwise turn up to school without breakfast, older people who go to their local lunch club to stop feeling lonely, or people who are homeless and need a hot cooked meal to get them through the day.”
