Abstract
Alasdair Murdoch, the CEO of Burger King, will headline Area’s 2019 Christmas event held at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park on 2 December.

As well as giving an insight into the Burger King business, which he’s led since February 2018, he’ll share insights and learnings from his successful career within the restaurant industry.

Murdoch spent most of his career with Yum brands, however he started out over 20 years ago as an area manager for Taylor Walker before moving across in 1995 to Pizza Hut in the UK.

Here he worked in operations and in 2000 became operations director for the delivery brand, overseeing its renaissance, driving sales, tripling profitability and embarking on franchising within that channel.

He then moved to KFC as operations director for two years in the UK before moving to France as managing director of the Pizza Hut business.

He came back to the UK in 2006 to become CEO of Pizza Hut UK for three years before moving to head upPizza Express’s international business based out of Barcelona, enabling its sale back to the brand owner at the time.

In 2010 he was part of the team that took The Clapham House Group private and for seven years he led the team that oversaw the growth of GBK. He did this alongside his team by investing in the quality of the food, re-investing in the restaurants and developing the GBK teams in each restaurant, coupled with brand definition that drove consumer engagement.

The Arena Christmas Event provides a forum to catch up with industry colleagues, old and new, and build beneficial relationships during the drinks reception and three-course lunch with wine.   As with all Arena events, the guest list will be available to view beforehand to help attendees maximise the networking opportunities available.
