Abstract
Five budding chefs from across the UK are preparing for the grand final of the McCain Signature Dish competition in the hope of winning a total of £2,000 for themselves and their employer or college.
The finalists of the competition have been announced as Daniel Waldock, Thames Valley University; Paula Wiles, Thanet College; Matthew Jackson, Llangoed Hall, Beacon; Mark Cody, Liverpool Community Colleague; Sebastian Price, Crown Moran Hotel, London. Over the past four months, McCain in conjunction with the Craft Guild of Chefs have hosted regional finals throughout the country in search of talented young chefs. The competition culminates this weekend in a cook-off final, where the chefs' dishes will be judged on their innovation and originality. The winning chef will create a starter and a main course that stands out from the crowd, using great quality ingredients including products from the McCain Signatures range to create their own 'Signature Dish'. The competition will be judged by a panel of select chefs, including Craft Guild chef Mathew Shropshall, Bill Farnsworth the former Director of Catering Studies at Birmingham College and Ben Bartlett, Food Development Manager, Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises. Adrian Greaves, McCain Foodservice associate director, said: "We've been hugely impressed at the level of talent that we've seen through the competition. It's a promising sign for the hospitality industry that these young chefs have created such inspirational and innovative dishes. The grand final looks set to be particularly challenging for the judging panel." The winner will be crowned at the grand final at Thames Valley University on 13 June.
