Abstract
Soft drinks manufacturer Britvic is to close its site in Norwich as it prepares to transfer production of its Robinsons and Fruit Shoot brands to sites in east London, Leeds and Rugby.

The company, whose other brands include J20, Lipton, Mountain Dew, 7up and Drench, said it is closing as a means of making “productivity and efficiency savings”.

Britvic chief executive, Simon Litherland, said that the 242 employees on the site will be offered a "comprehensive package of support, including redeployment opportunities at other sites and outplacement services to help find alternative employment".

"This is not a proposal that we make lightly and we know this is upsetting news for our colleagues," said Litherland. "We are very grateful for the hard work and dedication of our employees at our Norwich factory and today's announcement is in no way a reflection on their performance or commitment.

"However, the changes we are proposing today present significant productivity and efficiency savings in our manufacturing operations, deliver environmental benefits and, coupled with our ongoing investment programme in our GB manufacturing operations, ensure that we have the flexibility and capability we need to respond to changing consumer trends faster and more efficiently."

In November 2015 the company announced a three-year £240m investment into its British manufacturing operations. It says the Norwich closure will not affect these plans.

The company will release its preliminary results on 29 November, set to clarify costs related to the closure, which is planned for the end of 2019.
