Abstract
A new study has this week unveiled Brits’ relationship with food and snacking – revealing that only one in seven eat five portions of fruit and veg a day.

With the average Brit dedicating one hour and 39 minutes a day to thinking about food – most likely between the ‘snacking hour’ of 10-11am – one in four said they think about food more than their tasks at work.

Carried out by dental brand Johnson & Johnson, the research also found:

  • One in five Brits consider food and cooking as one of their key interests in life
  • One in five snack because they are bored; and 18% purely out of habit
  • The majority think about dinner the most followed by lunch then breakfast

Consuming the majority of their daily calorific intake at dinner (63%), just one in seven Brits eat five-a-day while the majority claim to eat as little as four pieces of fruit/veg a week.

Shockingly, despite 12% who ‘don’t think’ they have ever consumed 5-a-day, 57% of Brits still consider themselves to ‘have generally healthy diets.’ 13% meanwhile admit to being unhealthy.
