Abstract
A new study has found that Brits would rather eat a takeaway than go to a Michelin-starred restaurant, it was yesterday (6 September) revealed.
Describing high-end eateries as ‘pretentious,’ over half of the 2,000 people polled said they would rather order a take out. Main reasons include: small portions, long waiting lists, ‘sky high costs’ and having to dress up for a ‘posh’ meal.
Carried by delivery company Just Eat, the new study celebrates the launch of its 2018 British Takeaway Awards.
Other key findings include:
- 87% prefer a takeaway to mark special moments such as a birthday, moving into a new house/flat, getting a new job and graduation
- More than a quarter would like to order in for breakfast
- 49% would dump their partner based on their takeaway taste
- 51% said they prefer takeaways as they ‘are not pretentious’
- Nearly a third said it was their favourite kind of food
