Vouchercodes.co.uk found out that the typical pizza lover will spend an average of £9,725 during their lifetime on takeaway versions of the favourite Italian meal.
“Anita Naik, lifestyle editor at voucher codes, said: “With so many different toppings and bases to choose from, it’s no wonder us Brits gobble up so many pizzas.
“With the average pizza-lover splurging almost 10k in their lifetime on takeaway pizzas alone, it can be an expensive treat.”
One in three of those who took part said that pizza was their favourite takeaway and one in five said that the doughy dish was their favourite food.
The study also found that thin crust is the most popular, followed by deep-pan and mushrooms are the most popular topping, closely followed by pepperoni, ham, chicken an tomato.
Naik said: “I was really surprised at Britain’s favourite toppings, who would have thought mushrooms would be on the podium.”
Anchovies held the spot of least favourite, along with Cumberland sausage and prawns.
And even with all of the debate, pineapple made it into the top ten at number seven.
