Abstract
The British Poultry Awards announced its 15, 2018 winners this week at a ceremony at Sheraton Grand Park Lane (London), which saw UK Foodhall take home Foodservice Operator of the Year.

Recognising the company’s growth from selling “one chicken product eleven years ago to becoming a significant operator serving over 18,000 schools and over one million school meals each week with British Poultry products,” judges also commended UK Foodhall for serving over half a million schools with British turkey every Christmas.

It will now be able to carry the British Poultry Awards logo across its entire range of products for the next 12 months.

Other notable winners include Green Gourmet, who took home Best Foodservice Poultry Product for its Red Tractor raw chicken breast fillet portion – noted for being a “great innovation, sufficiently versatile for schools to manage cost and minimise wastage while delivering on taste and nutrition.”

Judges, which included Cost Sector Catering’s very own Sheila Eggleston (food and drink editor), chef consultant Lee Maycock and Phil Clarke from Farmers Weekly, said they were impressed with the number of foodservice operators ‘helping to promote all varieties of British poultry to their customers.’

Chief executive of the British Poultry Council, Richard Griffiths, said: “Our awards are the biggest event in the poultry industry calendar, providing an important platform to recognise small and large players for their continued contribution to make the industry the success it is.

“It’s a great opportunity to applaud the innovators and we’re pleased to say that this year we attracted a huge number of high spec products from across the industry. A huge thanks to all those who entered and congratulations to all winners.”

There was one extra award made on the night when Sheila Eggleston was presented with the Outstanding Contribution Award to mark her support for the event as a judge over a number of years.
