Abstract
The British Leek Growers Associations has launched a lockdown recipe competition designed to celebrate British leek, which it is at the height of its season.

The competition is open to everyone from chefs to home cooks and aims to encourage sustainability and minimise food waste.

Entrants should provide a photo of their final dish along with a list of ingredients and the method used. Entries have to be emailed to the British Leek Growers Association by 18 February 2021 (britishleeks@mail.com).

Chairman of the British Leek Growers Association Stewart Aspinall and naturopathic chef Julie Cleijne will judge the recipes.  The winner will get a £100 voucher, a full day’s training or consultancy with Cleijne and a trip to a leek farm (or financial equivalent).

Cleijne said: “Simply get creative with every part of the leek, creating recipes that either use the whole leek, or as much of the leek as possible – minimising waste.

“All recipes must include leeks as an intrinsic ingredient, and you can enter anything from a canapé, starter, side dish or main course to even a dessert recipe!  It’s up to you.”
