Abstract
Brakes was among the proud winners of the inaugural Beacon Supplier Awards, announced at an awards dinner on 26th January at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.
Winning the Green Tourism Award, Brakes was recognised for actively seeking to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of its operations, and particularly how they impact on tourism. A judging panel composed of a Beacon representative and leading industry and media figures chose the winners for the Green Award, endorsed by Green Business UK. Jon Proctor, awards judge and technical director for the Green Tourism Business Scheme commented: "Brakes not only had the most comprehensive info but their website and their recent actions undertaken since 2007 demonstrate a genuine commitment to green up their operations and supply chain." James Armitage, marketing director at Brakes said: "We are delighted to have been honoured at the first ever Beacon Awards. Being presented with one of the key awards is true testament not only to our environmental credentials, but also to our excellent trading relationship with Beacon." The awards, timed to coincide with the 2009 Best Western Members Conference, were the culmination of a highly competitive process attracting hundreds of votes for over thirty Beacon suppliers from customers eager to recognise the companies they felt distinguished themselves in the key areas of Outstanding Customer Service, Most Reliable Supplier, and Exceptional Staff Member.
