The Student Chef Team Challenge invites teams, consisting of three full-time catering and hospitality college students, to create a dish displaying a high level of culinary skill which reflects current trends, demonstrates great technique and is presented with style.
Entries were reviewed by a panel of judges, including Mark Irish, head of Brakes development chefs, and Allister Bishop, head production chef at Harrods. The teams were assessed on their interpretation of ‘World Cuisine’, use of ingredients, processes, techniques, culinary skills and ability to cost a menu.
The 46 short-listed teams will now be invited to compete in a live cook-off at one of six regional heats, with eight teams competing per region and six in the South West and Wales.
The six regional heats will take place during January and February 2013 at various locations across the UK, from Motherwell to Bristol, with the winning teams, along with the overall best runner-up, progressing to the live competition final, held as part of ScotHot 2013, at the SECC Glasgow on 4-6 March 2013.
The overall winning team will receive a five-day work placement hosted by Christopher Basten, vice chairman of the Craft of Guild Chefs, a six-piece global knife set and the coveted winners plaque as well as a commemorative award plate, medals and certificates. Prizes are also awarded to all competition final and regional heat competitors.
