Abstract
Brakes recently held its annual fundraising event for Meals & More, the holiday hunger charity it started in 2015, at the London Golf Club & Brands Hatch.

The aim was not only to raise money, but also raise awareness of the plight many thousands of children and families that face challenging times over school holiday periods.

It was hosted by TV presenter and ‘Strictly’ winner Chris Hollins and Tour Player & Sky presenter Inci Mehmet, with participants either golfing or go-karting. A full day of activity was followed by refreshment at the Food Village to sample fare provided by some of the country’s leading food and drink companies.

After this, participants donned casual evening wear and were joined by more than 280 guests at the gala dinner hosted by Sysco GB chief executive Peter Jackson. Guests heard from Sharon Hodgson, MP, and chair of the APPG on School Food, about the national picture relating to holiday provision and the ongoing challenges faced by so many children in 2022.

Peter McGrath, operations director of Meals & More, shared the charity’s aims for the future, including increasing the focus on the ‘More’, and this summer providing grants to clubs to enable more than 1,300 children to have a ‘Big Day Out’.

There was a luxury raffle, an online auction and also a live auction for Star Lots, including hospitality at Liverpool FC, donated by Dr Schar, a Turnberry Golf experience donated by Brown Brothers, a theatre in London visit from DAF Trucks and a private dinner party for eight donated by Brakes.
