Brakes Group scoops gold for 2012 CR Index

3rd Apr 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Brakes Group has achieved Gold in Business in the Community’s (BITC) 2012 Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI), the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.
Achieving Gold means that Brakes Group is able to demonstrate openness and transparency through effective public reporting of its material environmental and social issues, programmes and performance. Brakes was praised for their contribution to the continued reduction in road miles and CO2 emissions, including using rail to replace deliveries by road between the Midlands and Scotland, the introduction of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles and collaborative work to reduce empty return journeys on primary delivery vehicles running across the UK distribution network in partnership with other transport companies. Stephen Howard, chief executive at Business in the Community said: "I congratulate Brakes Group on achieving Gold in the 2012 BITC Corporate Responsibility Index. "Achieving Gold means that Brakes Group is able to demonstrate openness and transparency through effective public reporting of its environmental and social issues, programmes and performance. It also means its CSER strategy includes clear and measurable targets, which are articulated in an effective manner. "As we celebrate 10 years of our CR Index it has given me great pleasure to witness each company's responsible business journey and the transformations they are making both within their businesses and the impact they have in our communities". Ian Goldsmith, group chief operating officer at Brakes Group added: "As a business, we aim to provide what our customers need today while delivering responsible and sustainable business practices to protect tomorrow - through driving down food miles, responsible sourcing, and supporting the communities we serve, Brakes Group strives to do the right thing."
