The lining of the cup is fully biodegradable and breaks down within 90 days in a compostable environment. The cup is available in 8oz and 12oz costing 8p and 10p per cup.
Stuart Hyslop, managing director of Booker’s group catering & small business division, said: “Sustainability is becoming more and more important to both our customers and their consumers. This is the most sustainable cup Booker has sold and is a first in the UK.
“We are keeping the price low to drive distribution. The cup will be available in Booker and Makro branches nationwide from mid-October.”
Andrew Stallabrass of Hot Pack, added: “H-Pack (Eco) are delighted to be a partner with Booker on this exciting new project, we are confident that it will prove a huge success and look forward to working with Booker on their bio-range in the coming months ahead."
The Booker Group are committed to sustainability as they recently became the first wholesaler to hold four Carbon Trust Standards.
