Abstract
Global foodservice contractor BonCulina is supporting the care sector to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day with recipe ideas, including one that dates from the time and reflects the food rationing the country was experiencing.

D-Day was the largest naval, air and land operation of its time and marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War. Thursday 6th June marks an important date in history, the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

BonCulina’s top tips include run a themed menu on 6th June using dishes from BonCulina, decorate your wards with Great British bunting and invite your local MP, mayor or local war veterans to have a meal.

The recipe ideas include:

  • Fish & chips: Battered haddock with chips and mushy peas
  • Woolton Pie: A root vegetable and oat based pie topped with shortcrust pastry served with mashed potato and red cabbage (created by the head chef of the Savoy Hotel during the Second World War and named after Lord Woolton, The Minister of Food, responsible for the successful food rationing programme)
  • British Puddings: Rice pudding and bread & butter pudding
