Abstract
Bolton Council has strengthened its commitment to providing sustainable school meals after successfully completing an audit by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), enabling the service to use the MSC logo.

Non-profit organisation MSC works with fisheries, seafood companies, retailers and scientists to help protect the oceans around us and safeguard seafood supplies.

A product with the blue MSC ecolabel on it means you can trust where the fish or seafood comes from and that it will have been fished sustainably.

The Bolton School Meals service provides catering to 94 primary and special schools across the borough.

Garry Parker, Bolton Council’s assistant director for environment services, said: “Seafood is a healthy protein source for children. Serving MSC certified fish to school children provides them with a nutritious meal while also reducing impact on the ocean.”
