Conducted by agency Rawlingson Lane, the test featured 50 randomly selected customers from diverse demographics sampling five chai variations from four leading competitors.
The tasting, held at Kudos Coffee, Whitchurch, maintained neutral conditions with samples served in unbranded, color-coded cups following manufacturer instructions.
After sampling the chai in random order, participants provided insights on taste, texture, and authenticity through a brief questionnaire.
Michelle Younger, head of marketing at Aimia Foods said: “Intriguingly, the results indicated a 67% preference for chai powder over syrup alternatives.
“Despite the prevalent use of chai syrup in UK coffee shops, the majority of customers favour chai powder for its ‘authentic’ taste. Drink me Chai's Artisan powder emerged as the overall favourite, solidifying its position as a top choice for establishments seeking a delicious, authentic, and easy-to-prepare chai latte.”
