Abstract
The Blackpool Council Chef Academy gave young chefs the opportunity to provide catering for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award celebration with Prince Edward Earl of Wessex.
The Chefs Academy is about giving young people opportunities to start a career in the hospitality and catering industry. As well as teaching students how to cook, the scheme highlights the importance of how to work under pressure, how to work in a team as well as organisation skills.
Derek Wright, catering services manager at Blackpool Council, said: “The students were over the moon when he complimented them on the food! What an awesome opportunity and what a memory they will have for years to come. Very proud of the students and the whole team at BCS Chefs Academy.”
The young chefs also received praise from Public Sector Catering Alliance chair Matt White, who encouraged the young chefs to ‘showcase the best of public sector food’.
