Abstract
Bite Catering has become the first contract caterer to sign up as a member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).
The SRA was launched in March 2010 to help the UK hospitality industry become global leaders in sustainable eating. It already has 600 members, including eating establishments of all types, across the UK. As part of its commitment to the SRA, Bite is setting up a 'Sustainability Development Team' comprising employees who work front line in its client restaurants. The concept will be headed by Simon Macfarlane, Bite director of operations. Mark Linehan, managing director of the SRA, said: "Restaurants of all types are experiencing the benefits of greater sustainability, through lower waste and energy bills, greater involvement with their local communities, better relationships with local suppliers, and crucially closer ties with their customers. "It is a natural progression for us to pass on this experience to contract caterers and we are delighted to be working with Bite." Nick Parker, managing director of Bite, added: "As well as providing high quality food, we also believe passionately in sustainability and the key role that the provision of seasonal, responsibly sourced workplace food and drink has to play in a consumer's 24hr eating cycle. "Working in partnership with the SRA will enable us to ensure we are doing everything we can to help our clients achieve their wide ranging CSR objectives."
Bite currently operates in 12 sites across the South East of England.
