Big funds raised for Kenya hospital

20th Apr 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
Unilever Food Solutions and ISS Facility Services Healthcare have sold more than 67,000 cups of tea to raise money for the Kericho District Hospital in Kenya.
From October to December last year, 42 hospital sites in the UK (run by ISS Facility Services Healthcare) donated 10% of profits from PG tips and Lipton tea sales to the Kenyan hospital, located near Unilever's tea estate in Kericho. Unilever's corporate research and development director in Kenya, Kip-Utich Kaptich, presented the £4,861 cheque to the hospital this month. The money will be used to renovate the children's ward. Andy Jones, service development director ISS Facility Services Healthcare, said: "To take part in this worthy cause with Unilever Food Solutions was a no-brainer for us. "Everyone loved the idea of giving something back to another hospital, simply by selling cups of tea, and the staff did a fantastic job in raising awareness of the campaign to our guests and patients. It was a great idea, we are delighted with the results and we hope to run similar promotions in the future." Claire Sullivan, marketing director Unilever Food Solutions, added: "We are fortunate enough to live in a country where we have access to good medical care and equipment. In an ideal world this would be the same for other countries, but sadly it's not. This initiative shows you how a simple act, like buying a cup of tea, can make a real difference to the lives of others. "The funds raised will be used to extend the children's ward, which will help to significantly reduce overcrowding in the acute room. We thank ISS Facility Services Healthcare again for partnering with us."
